Superheroes have been the flavor of the month as of late so I thought I’d put together a list that honors the biggest and the baddest. These heroes are the most powerful in the world. The debate will always continue, who’s the most powerful superhero of all time? Well, hopefully I can help shed some light on the situation with this list. As a giant superhero fan myself I was curious to see what the rest of the world thought on the matter as I did some research. Of course everyone had their own opinion, me included. So I decided to take what I learned and apply it to this article. I’d like to think it was well thought out and the order makes sense, well, it does to me at least. I can’t wait to hear what kind of controversy this starts so without further ado, the 10 most powerful superheroes of all time! Real quick, some honorable mentions… First off, Dr. Fate. I debated between either him or Doctor Strange to make the top 10 and I chose to go with the latter due to the simple fact that Dr. Fate needs his helmet in order to have full command of his powers and Doctor Strange, well, Doctor Strange is just a badass who doesn’t. The Green Lantern, whether it’s Hal Jordan or John Stewart, The Lantern is the powerful protector of the universe. With his ring, he can create anything he wants just by thinking about it. It’s a powerful weapon to say the least but it does need to be recharged and without it, he’s just a man. The ring makes him special but not special enough to crack the top 10. Professor X is another incredibly powerful hero with telepathic powers beyond belief. The only problem is, if you had a helmet like Magneto then you’d be immune to Professor X’s powers. Of course no one else has one but if it didn’t exist, he would’ve easily found himself in the top 10. Wonder Woman is essentially the female version of Superman. The only problem is, she’s not as powerful and she’s not entirely invulnerable. The beautiful woman of Themyscira found herself just short of making the cut. At lease she’s beautiful. (Is that a creepy THING to say about a fictional character? Ehh, oh well) Captain Atom is a badass. He can harness massive amounts of energy and then use them to his advantage. He’s almost as strong as Superman and he’s a born soldier. What kept him out of the top 10? Unfortunately I’ve just seen him get his ass kicked by Superman one to many times. Last but not least, Billy Batson, aka Captain Marvel, aka Shazam. Captain Marvel is as powerful as Superman is physically but he lacks the intellect or combat skills in order to compete with The Man of Steel. Like every other superhero, Captain has a weakness, a big one. He’s just a kid until he utters the word “Shazam!” Unfortunately, that weakness doesn’t look too good on a resume. Still a powerhouse of a superhero though.
Dr. Bruce Banner is one of the most powerful superheroes in the world. When he is Dr. Banner, he is one of Earth’s most brilliant scientist, specializing in gama radiation, biology, chemistry, engineering, physiology, and nuclear physics. That’s just him as a man, but Dr. Banner is so much more. When he gets mad enough, he transforms into The Incredible Hulk. A creature that not only poses super strength, endurance, regeneration abilities, super human speed and leaping ability. The best part about The Hulk’s powers are the madder he gets, the more powerful he becomes. It’s scary to even think about. The Hulk has proved time and time again he’s one of the most powerful beings in the superhero universe. His weakness? Taking advantage of him while he’s still Dr. Bruce Banner and kill him while you can. Although The Avengers movie proved that could be a problem as Dr. Banner explained that he once got so low that he tried to take his own life but The Hulk wouldn’t let him. Now that could be a problem for the rest of the villains in the Marvel Universe.
Now this one may come as a surprise to many of you but it shouldn’t. There are several different people that donned the cape known as The Flash but I’m going to talk about the modern day one in Wally West. The biggest misconception of Flash is that he’s just the fastest man in the world. It simply just doesn’t end there. The Flash also has the ability to think and act faster than the speed of light. Not only that but he can phase through walls and other matter, and read and acquire knowledge at a hyper extended rate. He may play the dumb witted hero in The Justice League cartoon but it’s simply just not the case. The Flash’s powers are incredibly underrated as he tops the list at number 9. His weakness? Well you’d have to catch him in order to find out. Which for most, is an impossible feat.
Everyone knows who The Man of Steel is and what he’s capable of. The Daily Planet’s Clark Kent is Earth’s mightiest hero with a heart of gold. His powers and abilities are limited only by his own mind. Superman possesses super strength, super speed, the ability to fly, can see through anything except lead, has heat vision and the heart of a champion who refuses to give up. Superman has stood the test of time as one of the most powerful heroes of all time. He’d be much higher on this list if he didn’t have such obvious weaknesses. His weakness? For one he has a strong moral compass which makes him weak by nature, he’s vulnerable to magic, but the one that everyone knows about is kryptonite. When kryptonite is in the presence of Earth’s savior, he becomes incredibly vulnerable. The one thing we didn’t hear anything about in The Man of Steel movie is kryptonite, so it’ll be interesting to see if it’ll play a factor in the future films.
Ms. Grey is the most powerful female in the superhero world. She’s almost too powerful for her own good. As one of the most powerful telepath’s in the world, those in which only parallel Professor X, Jean Grey is easily the most powerful member of the X-Men team and female in all the Universe. Her powers are only limited by her mind, and not only is she a telepath but she’s also a telekinetic. She has the ability to move objects just by thinking about them. Jean is scary powerful but when she transforms into The Phoenix, she’s just scary. Her powers become incredibly unpredictable and are seemingly endless. Her weakness? Being Jean Grey. As a human she still has a conscience who often demonstrates compassion, especially to the ones closest to her. However when she transforms into The Phoenix, she’s practically indestructible.
As one of the most powerful sorcerers in all of the world, Dr. Strange has been called ‘The Mightiest Magician in the Cosmos’ as well as ‘Sorcerers Supreme’ among other things. As a human, Dr. Strange has the power of a God with his sorcery but he’s also a skilled martial artist. Now being a martial artist seems pretty petty considering the power he possesses but it’s just another thing to add to the list. His powers are comparable to Dr. Manhattan’s which is impressive in itself. Strange’s abilities allow him to do so many things that the list is nearly endless. He can use his magical gifts to do whatever he wants, such as make himself invulnerable, resurrect the dead, fly, stopping and reversing time, send out energy blast and can even teleport. His abilities are only limited but his imagination. His weakness? When it comes down to it, he is still human. If you can get close enough, he can be hurt. Also he is susceptible to punches delivered by someone who can move planets but that’s a reach at best.
Richard Rider, or Nova, is the leader of an intergalactic police force. Given his powers as a teenager, Nova has learned to hone them over time. His powers were given to him by a dying Xandarian Rhomann Dey, the former leader of the Nova Corps of Xander. Nova’s powers consist of a vast energy source that grant him superhuman strength, the ability to fly, incredible durability and maybe the most impressive of them all is his ability to absorb energy and use it as his own power while shooting out power beams and energy pulses. Also, the uniform that he wears is incredibly durable and has weapons built into it itself. The self proclaimed defender of the Galaxy is a force to be reckoned with. His weakness? His main weakness is his predictability. As an officer of the law, he does have restrictions in what he can do and his enemies know it. Other than that, he’s fast but not incredibly fast. Nova is one of the mot underestimated and under-appreciated superheroes of all time.
The Norse God of Thunder is an incredible force to be reckoned with. He’s the most powerful of all The Avengers and one of the most powerful superheroes of all time. I mean, he’s a GOD. Thor’s merely invulnerable, has ungodly strength, incredible endurance, the power to summon lighting, can fly using his hammer, not to mention that Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer) is the fiercest weapon of all time. Thor is also long lived, meaning he ages at a veeeery slow rate. Thor is so powerful that it’s almost unfair to have any villains challenge him. I don’t think the movies thus far have done him justice in just how powerful he really is. Hopefully, The Norse God of Thunder will get his just do in the upcoming movie Thor: The Dark World. His weakness? It depends on who you ask and who’s writing the stories at the time. The ones I’ve come across the most are his vulnerability to high levels of magic and reality warping. However, like I said, it all depends on who you ask and who’s doing the writing at the time.
J’onn J’onzz is sneakily powerful. The most powerful member of The Justice League, J’onn has so many amazing abilities that he always seems to down play them, at least he does in the cartoons. J’onn, the Martian Manhunter may be from Mars but he’s one of Earth’s biggest and most faithful allies. Thank god he’s a good guy. J’onn’s powers seem endless. With the ability to read minds, shape shift into whatever he wants, x-ray vision, the ability to fly, invulnerability, super human strength that’s as powerful as Superman’s, invisibility which gives him the ability to phase through walls, J’onn’s in a league of his own. There’s nothing he can’t do and that’s just scary to think about. With the ability to adapt to any situation, J’onn J’onzz is an absolute powerhouse. His weakness? His most commonly known weakness is fire. Although in the Trial by Fire arch he over came it to a certain extent. So who really knows, which just makes him all the more dangerous.
Dr. Jonathan Osterman disintegrated in an Intrinsic Field Subtractor and reappeared as Dr. Manhattan. The most powerful member of The Watchmen demonstrated just how strong he could be in the movie but that’s just scratching the surface. As a physicist, not only is one of the most powerful heroes in the world but he’s also one of the smartest. His abilities consist of having complete awareness and control over basic atomic particles, he’s seemingly invincible and immortal, he can alter the size of his body as well as alter his density and color to whatever he wants. He’s also a telekinetic and has the ability to teleport himself to where ever he chooses. And he’s so powerful he could annihilate entire worlds if he wanted to. It’s really quite impressive. His weakness? He’s been known to be weakened by tachyons, which are particles that move faster than the speed of light. It can slow down his abilities but it can’t stop him entirely. His other big weakness is apathy, meaning he just doesn’t care that much. He doesn’t have much interest in saving the world. I guess we should just be happy he’s not interested in destroying it either. And yes, I’m talking about him as if he really exist. You never know!
The Silver Surfer
The Silver Surfer started out as Norrin Radd, an astronomer from the planet Zenn-La. He became The Silver Surfer after he agreed to be Galactus’s herald, his servant. This leads to him acquiring incredible power, transforming his body into an indestructible metallic substance and a silver surfboard that he uses to travel across the universe. After speaking with Alicia Masters, he realized what he was doing was wrong and decided to disobey Galactus. He then quickly became Galactus’s toughest rival. Thank goodness The Silver Surfer turned hero because as a villain, he’d be unstoppable. His powers include the ability to absorb and manipulate the universe’s ambient energy, navigate through space at hyperspeed, super human strength and endurance. He can also project energy in various forms for offensive and defensive purposes, as well as having the ability to see through time. His senses give him the ability to detect objects light years away and to perceive matter and energy, including life forms. He can also use his nearly indestructible board to attack and capture enemies. Did I mention he can phase through matter and cast illusions? The Silver Surfer can just do it all, he’s absolutely unstoppable. His weakness? The only thing I could find or think of was on occasion his board could get damaged, HOWEVER, he’s always been able to repair it so I don’t think he has any real weaknesses. If he does, I’d love to hear them. Knowledge is power. Now understand, I’m no expert, I’m just pretending to be so if you disagree with anything or anyone on the list feel free to let me know. I can take it. Be heard.
