In the United States, there are several strange laws and strange objects that are banned. Many known about the obvious things, like drugs; and even objects that many may want banned – like guns. Some of these objects are banned for strange reasons and just seem odd that they are banned from the “land of the free.” There are several more laws on importing and exporting from the United States, and for those you would need to consult your local customs and border protection agencies(CBP).

Kinder Eggs
While the rest of the world enjoys the sweet chocolatey taste of a Kinder Surprise – America’s no-fun Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned them on the basis that the toys inside the eggs could be a choking hazard.

Continuing on their no-fun theme, the FDA has also banned Haggis imports. Americans can make their own but the US won’t let any food into the country which contains sheep lung.

Shark Fin
Shark fins, a traditional Chinese delicacy, have been banned in California since 2011. Once their fins have been removed sharks are often put back in the ocean where they are likely to drown because of their restricted movement.

Chicken Soup
Any prepared food that contains meat products, including “soup mixes” are not allowed in the U.S. over health concerns.

Cuban Cigars
Cuban Cigars are America’s longest standing embargo and it is strongly enforced. Someone caught trying to import even one of these could face a fine up to $55,000 and jail time.

Gaming and Hunting Trophies
The rules on gaming and hunting trophies are based on the port (which there are only a few) to enter the US, the laws of the states you plan on visiting and the laws based on the country you are travelling from. Other factors are the animal itself, the size and the quality of the taxidermy.
