The “27 Club” is a grouping of popular musicians who pass away under drug, alcohol or violent circumstances. The spike in musician related deaths at the age of 27 is apparent and not explainable. The pattern has proven at least 50 famous musicians have passed away in the last 125 years at the early age of 27, all from unforeseeable circumstances. The pattern wasn’t noticed or documented until 1969 – 1971 when four of the most famous artists at the time all saw untimely deaths.

Below are some of the most famous Artist that are in the club.


Brian Jones (February 28, 1942 – July 3, 1969…27 years, 125 days)
Brian Jones was the founder and original bandleader of famous rock band, The Rolling Stones. His life was cut tragically short when he was found at the bottom of a pool; his original cause of death was drowning, but was later changed to “Death by Misadventure.”

Jimi Hendrix (November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970…27 years, 295 days)
Jimi Hendrix was an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential guitarists of all time; with famous hits such as “Hey Joe,” “Purple Haze” and “The Wind Cries Mary.” Hendrix unfortunately died from asphyxiation on his own vomit while intoxicated with Barbiturates.


Janis Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970…27 years, 258 days)

Janis Joplin was an American singer-songwriter with many famous psychedelic/acid rock hits. She has been added to Rolling Stone magazine’s top 100 Artists of All Time. Joplin, unfortunately, was found dead in her room – it was concluded that she overdosed on heroine combined with alcohol.

Jim Morrison (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971…27 days, 207 days)
Jim Morrison was the lead singer of the famous rock group, The Doors. Morrison’s death was ruled accidental, he had snorted Heroin, believing it to be cocaine.

Kurt Cobain (February 20, 1967 – April 5, 1994…27 years, 44 days)
Kurt Cobain was the singer of famous band, Nirvana – he was also the pioneering force behind the American Grunge Movement. After struggling with addiction and depression his whole life – Kurt was found dead in his home, with a controversial gunshot wound to the face. His Death was ruled as a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a suicide, but, there are many conspiracies believing other events took place.

Amy Winehouse (September 14, 1983 – July 23, 2011…27 years, 312 days)
Amy Winehouse is regarded as one of the greatest soul voices of the century, she has won several awards and set many records with her talent. Unfortunately, Winehouse struggled with addiction and eating disorders throughout her life, which got the best of her, when she eventually was found unconscious with no pulse and not breathing. Her death was ruled as an accidental overdose.
